Mahindra Verito Look
The Mahindra -Verito looks fresher than its eight-year-old design would suggest. There is an extra dash of something on the grille that Indians usually like chrome. It sits atop the bumper. Other parts including the sides and rear are identical to the conventional powered sedan. However, peek closely and you will find the electric Fast Charging port in a fetching silver and blue colour on the left front fender, along with a big blue decal screaming ‘Verito electric’. Similarly, at the rear, there is a green ‘e’ ahead of the Verito badge and an ‘Electric’ motif. Strip the car of the badges and the charging port, and you’re left with a regular Verito.
Mahindra Verito Comfort
Interiors have also been completely revamped. The Verito gets a new in-dash music system, and the centre console gets a carbon-finish panel to make it look attractive. The new black steering wheel doesn’t feel cheap like the earlier beige one and the entire combination of black and beige is more appealing now. The quality of the plastics also looks and feels a tad better than the Logan. Most of the bits of the Verito remain untouched. The instrument cluster, the circular air-con vents, the seats and even the steering wheel design. The power window switches are moved from the centre console to the driver’s side. The seats are still the same comfortable ones with sufficient space for your head and knees in both the rows. Even the boot is large enough to gobble most of your luggage. When you sit in the driver’s seat, you sit high and also the visibility is good. Even the outside mirrors are larger and are electrically adjustable. Only the lock for central lock is difficult to access, especially when you are accustomed to locks near the door latch.
Mahindra Verito Engine
Mahindra is a master of all when it comes to powering the vehicles. Though Verito is available in both diesel and petrol, but its diesel engine needs a special mention here. The 1.5-litre 4 cylinder diesel engine is pretty frugal and delivers quite an appreciable performance over city roads. It carries an ability to deliver power worth 66PS against a peak torque of 160Nm. The engine’s worth is already proved as it is a regular power source of several other cars like Renault Scala, Nissan Micra, Renault Pulse, Nissan Terrano, Fluence, and several others. The petrol version on the other hand is powered by a 1.4-litre engine that displaces 1390cc to deliver power worth 76PS against a peak torque of 110Nm. Both these engines mate with a 5-speed manual transmission. All the versions of Mahindra Verito are available with BSIII and BSIV compliant versions of these power mills. The gear ratio is great that is another feather in its cap with respect to city and highway drives.
The inspiring model Renault Logan has always been known for its high mileage and the legacy is continued by Verito. The car gives similar fuel efficiency like Logan which makes it one of the most appealing sedans in C1 segment. Both petrol and diesel engine of this car have been equipped with SOHC and MPFI systems which play a great role in improving its fuel efficiency. The petrol version of Mahindra Verito delivers mileage of 11.3kmpl on city roads and 15.7kmpl over highways as rated by ARAI. The diesel engine, on the contrary, delivers a mileage of 18kmpl on city roads and 21kmpl over freeways as confirmed by ARAI. The fuel tank of Verito bears a capacity to store fuel worth 50-litres which means the diesel version of the car has a range of 1050kms while the petrol version has of 785kms.
Mahindra Verito Rideing
Logan had a plush ride. With no changes being made on the underpinnings, the Verito retains similar dynamics. The ride suppleness is still composed as most of the road shocks are absorbed up the suspension. The Verito smoothly glides over potholes. The Logan’s agile handling characteristics are transferred to the Verito as well. The car is planted and inspires confidence in the driver when driven on straight roads or pushed around corners. There is not much of body roll and the steering is precise at low speeds. At higher speeds, it does feel a tad slack. But that’s about it.
Mahindra Verito Safety
Mahindra Verito is loaded with a sound braking system that plays an important role in bringing down car’s speed whenever required. The front end braking is taken care by disc type brakes while rear end is controlled by drum type. The safety aspect of the process is taken care by Anti lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) system that helps avoiding car sliding by distributing the brake force equally between all four tyres. Mahindra Verito Bottomline
The Verito might just be what we need in this hour of increasing pollution and the need for clean air to breathe, and is the ideal way to avoid the odd-even rule if it crops up again. It’s also a much more realistic EV to own than its sibling, the e20, but it demands a premium for this. Mahindra says that its electric vehicles sell through word of mouth and the subsequent price reduction through the FAME scheme is also encouraging sales. However, given the infrastructure crisis right now (Mahindra claims to have identified close to 200 points across the country for setting up charging stations), it makes sense to have a hybrid rather than a pure electric. Mahesh agrees too and says that infrastructure is the main hindrance as of now. But the e-Verito wasn’t built to be a mass product. It just shows the manufacturer’s prowess at building electric vehicles and intention to further pursue this path. And that’s not something almost any of its rivals can lay claim to.
