Land Rover Discovery Sport Overview

Land Rover is already working on a next-generation Discovery Sport, but with the model still a few years away from arriving, a facelifted version of the current Discovery Sport is making test rounds. The prototype is wrapped in heavy camouflage, but the overall shape of the SUV suggests that there could be a lot of changes made to the updated Discovery Sport ahead of the next-generation model’s arrival in a few years. View offers on Land Rover Cars from Land Rover dealers in Hyderabad at Autozhop.

Land Rover Discovery Sport Look

On the cosmetic front, there are absolutely no changes to this model. The styling elements on the SUV remain completely the same. The Discovery Sport looks like a proper SUV thanks to its rather intimidating design. The front fascia carries a bold look which is accentuated by the beautiful LED DRLs. The side profile has simple styling but that doesn’t mean that it looks bad. At the rear, you get LED tail-lights which have a funky design. The Discovery Sport is available in a number of colours and you can even get the roof in the contrasting black shade which adds to the looks. The Land Rover also has very good road presence.

Land Rover Discovery Sport Comfort

It’s a white over black affair in terms of the cabin and this combined with the large glass area lends an airy feel to the cabin. You get all the features that are standard in this part of the premium car market like multi-zone climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, leather seats as well as a reversing aid feature. It’s quite spacious inside both in the first and second row though you do sit a bit low in the latter and this appears to be in somewhat of a compensation for the lower rear roofline. You get a third row which is quite small and is best suited for quick trips, kids or medium sized pets. But it’s a third row nonetheless and adds the benefit of transporting two more people.

What we found to be lacking is the quality used in some of the switch gear as well as the quality of some of the plastics. They felt sub-par for a car that costs almost Rs 60 lakhs (on-road Mumbai). We also found the touchscreen system too small and a bit dated in appearance. It’s just not as good as what the Germans offer in similar sized vehicles. Finally, on the safety front you get seven airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and hill functions. For Land Rover Discovery Sport check

Land Rover Discovery Sport Gearbox

Arguably the most important update in the facelifted Discovery Sport is the availability of a plug-in hybrid version. Details are still unclear on how much power the hybrid version of the Discovery Sport will carry, but it will be using the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ingenium engine that Land Rover began using on the model in 2015.The engine comes in gas and diesel variants and can be reconfigured to accommodate three-, five, and six-cylinder options. Given its versatility, it’s not a surprise that the Ingenium engine is used across the Discovery Sport’s model lineup. It can produce as little as 150 horsepower and as much as 240 horsepower.

The updated figures won’t be released until the facelifted SUV makes its debut. That said, expect minimal bumps in power across the range. The Discovery Sport Hybrid should also ascend to the top of the entire lineup where it will serve as the range-topping version of the Discovery Sport.

Land Rover Discovery Sport Rideing

The Land Rover Discovery Sport has a very pliant ride which makes the passengers feel comfortable no matter how the road terrain is. Even on craters that are present on Mumbai roads, the Discovery Sport doesn’t feel unsettled at all and you don’t really need to slow down much. Handling is also good by SUV standards and while some body roll is present, the vehicle instils confidence and remains stable at high speeds even while cornering. While I don’t have any complaints with regards to the tyres, I feel that the brakes could have been more confidence inspiring, maybe the brake pads on our test car had worn out.

Land Rover Discovery Sport Safety

The Land Rover Discovery Sport gets disc brakes at both ends. On the safety front, it comes with advanced driver assistance features like- speed limiter, cruise control, lane departure and emergency braking. The Driver Pack comprises traffic sign recognition, driver condition monitor, adaptive speed limiter and blind spot monitor.

Land Rover Discovery Sport Round Up

Land Rover’s plan for the Discovery Sport is taking shape. Some people might dismiss the mode to unveil a facelifted version just as the development of the next-gen unit starts, but I think it’s a smart idea. The facelifted Discovery Sport keeps the model fresh, preventing customers from having to settle on the current version of the SUV as it adds years to its life. I don’t expect big changes from the updated model, but there should be enough of them to establish the model’s place in the segment. A hybrid version is a plus, too.
